Enrollment Blues

I was supposed to enroll my last two remaining subjects yesterday. Bad news is that only one of those two is offered (Sigh!). Only three of us need that subject, and I'm hoping we can convince at least five more so we can lower the displacement fee (DF) for that subject (probably around P2,000 by the end of the semester).

While waiting for another classmate, I asked myself whether I would still enroll or what, considering that a petition is more of a 50-50 chance. I even joked that the money would be better off spent at Glorietta!

But what really angered me yesterday was the new policy that all DF must be paid first before one graduate student can enroll. They are even asking for our class cards! Of course we were obviously shocked, but like other policies, we have no choice. I have five subjects with DF, with the first two already with me since I try to pay every time I have extra money. Although the class cards are all worth getting for my grades are higher than I expected (",), the money I have is only for this semester's tuition, plus I feel this new policy really sucks!
I decided to wait until next week so I can speak with my classmates first.

There are a lot to complain.
1. Is it really considered a state university?
2. Every year, tuition is up by 15% while miscellaneous is at 5%.
3. We don't have any idea where this developmental fund we pay every semester goes.
4. We spend classes in a learning center or sometimes in the dean's office as compared to those who are enrolled in a trimester basis who are able to use the graduate school building.
5. We are sold raffle tickets (compulsory!) at 500 pesos.
6. Number of students should be 20 per class, unless you agree to pay the displacement fee for the class to continue. If there are only seven students, they would share the payment for the 13 slots at the end of the semester before they can have their class cards. Last semester I attended a class of nine, and as per my computation, the DF is more or less P1,500.
7. In my nine subjects, I only had four professors (though I enjoyed the four with the same professor).

I have high regard for this institution for it is among the top ten in the country. But sometimes I wonder if my money was worth it after all this time.
