begin to hope

Last month, I found myself humming a certain tune over and over. Funny, but I actually turned to my niece who's actually a radio buff herself. The song, she said, was "SAMSON", from Regina Spektor's Begin to Hope album, and it has been in constant play in Philippine radio for the last few weeks.

Where exactly did I hear this song? I remember clearly my friend Mitch was singing that song while we were at the COA cottage in Baguio. But I am certain I have heard that somewhere else...

After searching on the Internet, I found out both FIDELITY (SIX DAYS, Part 2 episode) and ON THE RADIO (Damage Case episode) were used in Grey's Anatomy. Whew...I knew it! That's why her voice seem so familiar, huh!

When I bought her CD, I immediately fell in love with most of the songs. Aside from the three previously mentioned, I particularly like HOTEL SONG for its upbeat melody. Some songs sounded dull and eerie, though.

Other tracks in the album include BETTER, FIELD BELOW, APRES MOI, 20 YEARS OF SNOW, THAT TIME, EDIT, LADY, and SUMMER IN THE CITY.

Honestly, I still believe this is a great buy. Regina's music is unique; definitely a step ahead of the crappy pop songs produced lately.

On the other hand, I commend Grey's Anatomy for featuring rare talents in their show. From them the likes of Corinne Bailey Rae, The Fray, and Snow Patrol shot to fame. I have also discovered the music of Anna Nalick, Joshua Radin, and Rachael Yamagata through this show.

"You are my sweetest downfall..." (from the song SAMSON)

Hmmm, who could that be?
