a night with a fellow girltalker

I had the chance to see the Korean Film Festival at the UP Film Center last Wednesday night. I was joined by a fellow Girltalker, Liez, and we had tons of fun as we watched two films, both under the dramedy genre.

5PM

Ditto—a time-travel romance in the tradition of the international sensation, Il Mare, which was remade into the Hollywood blockbuster, The Lakehouse. The sci-fi romance is about two university students separated by 20 years, and the love affair that blossomed between them with the help of an old radiophone.

* Most of the scenes were amusing; not your typical slapstick comedy since the lines, though comedic in approach, were well-written. I also love the theme of sacrificial love.

7PM

My Heart, a period drama of epic proportions, spanning half a century in the life of a heroine compelled to marry a ten-year-old boy at the time when Korea was taking its first steps into the modern age.

*This could very well pass as a heavy drama film, if not for the occasional funny tag lines. I'm also glad that it had a happy ending which is well suited to the main character - that after all the hardships she endured, she was able to find peace and happiness in the care of a child he treated as her very own.
