Meet Jane Nichols (Katherine Heigl). She's been a wedding fan almost all her lifetime. In fact, the film began with Jane juggling herself between two weddings, all happening at the same evening. Her reason: They're both my friends!
In one of those weddings, Jane met Kevin (James Marsden), a cynic when it comes to weddings. Jane agreed for Kevin to accompany her home. And voila, girl left her planner in the cab (of all things!) and the boy had access to all her upcoming weddings (talk about future stalker huh!).
Moreover, Jane is in love with her boss, George (Edward Burns). She is the ultimate assistant par excellence (to the point of even picking up his clothes at the dry cleaners).
Enter Tess (Malin Ã…kerman), Jane's younger sister/model wannabe who's in town for a visit. She's always been Jane's baby girl ever since their mother died.
And then George and Tess meet (at a bar in one of their colleagues' pre-wedding party). The attraction was instant between the two. That leaves our poor Jane devastated! She was supposed to even tell George her feelings for him that same night. Jane left the party and ran into Kevin who handed her her planner. Eventually, Jane finds out that Kevin ripped off a week from her planner and wrote down his number all Saturdays possible.
After a few weeks (or days?) of dating, George proposed to Tess. And who else is supposed to be their bridesmaid? No less than Jane! Considered as the "pro" in such occasions, she was also tasked to take charge of the wedding planning.
And now Kevin is back in the picture again. Tess contacted a certain Malcolm Doyle from the Commitments Section of the New York City Journal, the same Malcolm Doyle who Jane has been crazy about (next to George, of course!). For Jane, Malcolm writes the best wedding stories (awww!)
At the bakeshop (for the cake tasting), Jane and Malcolm finally met. And who is Malcolm by the way? Kevin and Malcolm is one and the same, leaving Jane in complete disappointment.
The next scenes we see the two getting to know each other. Kevin was able to ransack (the term!) Jane's closet full of bridesmaid gowns, all 27 of them. Because Jane was busy minding other people's wedding, she forgot to take care of her own, and she rested on the mere satisfaction she gets from witnessing her friends' wedding.
It was not long after that Kevin realized that Jane is in love with George. While arguing about that case, their car had a hydroplane and got stuck in a mud at the side of the road. They spent a night at a bar drinking and singing. Later they made love inside the car. While having breakfast the following day, Jane found out about the article Kevin wrote about her. It was supposed to be published the following week, since Kevin had asked his editor to hold it so he could get to know Jane more. Jane storms out of the restaurant without hearing Kevin's side.
Meanwhile, while accompanying her little sister to the gown fitting, Jane found out that Tess had their mom's gown altered to suit her taste. That was the end of it all for Jane; no more good sister. She asked Tess to tell the truth to George (that she lied in so many things just so he would fall for her) or else she will. And because Tess didn't do as told, Jane decided to do it her way, by making a slideshow during the engagement party of the couple-to-be. The wedding is off after that (obviously!).
Days after, the sisters reconciled and then Jane realized she still had to tell George about her feelings. But first she decided to leave her post. George told her he loves her too, for she has always been there for him. The two kissed, but there was no "chemistry". End of story...at least for them.
Then Jane went to look for Kevin, She finds him covering a wedding at a boat. Having been recognized by the bride due to the newspaper article, she was urged to confess her love for the man she followed there. In the end, both confessed their love for each other and kissed in front of the crowd.
The story flashes forward to Kevin's and Jane's wedding one year later. Tess and George start all over, with Tess telling the truth this time. Jane wears her 28th dress and admits that though Kevin wasn't what she was looking for, he looked at her the way she always wanted to be looked at as she walks down the aisle. She also makes the 27 brides she was bridesmaid for wear the dresses she had to wear for each of their weddings. (Last paragraph lifted from www.wikipedia.org)

This is a great movie date! A nice romantic flick which will leave you, and whoever it is you're with, laughing in most scenes. The gown fitting of the 27 dresses was my favorite scene in particular.
